You can even get the fresh air and a transition seamlessly from indoors and outdoors. But what happens with the screen door that doesn’t slide? Well, it can create a huge source of frustration and if you don’t repair it the right way you will have to replace the whole door with a new one. When you try to open and close the screen door with full force there can be further damage in the door and the track it runs on. Also, screen doors aren’t cheap. So it is better to keep them in good condition as long as possible. Here are a few steps that can help you in getting your screen door open and close smoothly.

Remove the door from the track

If you want to check the tracks or the wheels when they are damaged, you have to remove the screen door first from the track. There should be two adjustment screws near the bottom corner of the frame in your door. You have to loosen them first. So turn the screws counterclockwise to loosen the wheels and to lower the door. Now with this, your door gets lowered. You can get down and raise one wheel out of the door track. You can use your fingers or flathead screwdriver to do this. Now you should be able to lift the entire door and pull the bottom edge out from the bottom track. Pull down to remove the top of the door from its track. When this is done you can place the door on a large table or you can balance them on a pair of sawhorses so that you can examine and replace the wheels easily.

Clean the bottom track

When you are removing the wheels from the screen door, you have to check out on the track. This is because you can vacuum any dust, debris or gunk that has been accumulated inside it. When you do this you can be surprised about how dirty they are. Therefore clean this regularly because the accumulated debris could be the thing that can keep your screen door from sliding away. When you are cleaning don’t add any oil or grease to the track. This is because there are many chances for the lubricants to trap more debris and dust in the truck and it becomes more difficult to open the door in the future.

Straighten the top and the bottom tracks

It is important to examine the top and bottom tracks for the dents. If you want them to be straightened all you can do is to carefully bend them back into the shape by using the pair of pliers. Also, you could use a small wooden block that can help you in straightening the bent metal. When you are using the wooden block hold the block against the bent area and carefully rap on it with the help of a hammer. You can do this until the bend is straightened out.

Replace the wheels

Now you can examine as well as replace the wheels on your screen door. You can remove the adjustment screws and gently pull out the wheels. You can do this with your fingers or a flat head screwdriver. Carefully remove the wheels.

Take an old wheel to the hardware store to buy a replacement wheel that will match. Make sure you choose the right one. If you are unable to find them, you need to buy a new screen door.
